When are you NOT ready for Marriage Counseling?
- Ongoing abuse: Physical or emotional abuse, or domestic violence
- Active affairs: Affairs or other competing attachments
- Substance abuse: Active addiction or substance abuse
- Severe mental health diagnoses: Severe mental health diagnoses
- Lack of control over emotions: Conditions like panic disorder or impulse disorder
- Suicidal thoughts: If one or both partners are profoundly distressed or suicidal
- Inability to create safety: If the couple cannot create safety in session, or if the abuser denies responsibility
If you fall into any of these categories, another type of counseling may be necessary.
